I’m the current caretaker of the land my ancestors homesteaded in 1866.

For the past 50 years, the previous two generations had largely deferred pasture maintenance. I needed someone to help me catch up. I knew I needed an expert’s help, and Rolland Spencer and Ranchland Development were the answer.

We met at the pasture in late 2025, and Rolland put together a three-year catch-up program on the spot: mechanical clearing, spraying and mulching, followed by controlled burning for long-term maintenance.

This year, we completed the first two steps. In 2027, we will mulch and spot-spray, followed by controlled burning as part of the ongoing maintenance program.

Rolland Spencer, the owner of Ranchland, grew up in agriculture and has made it his life’s work. I’ve met experts in many fields, and this is his arena. He loves what he does. I know this because he takes the time to show you what you need to know and how to succeed.

He’s taught me a lot, and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.

While I’ve been away from home, I’ve spent the past thirty years involved in rural electrification and associated agriculture. During that time, I’ve been fortunate to meet a few people like Rolland. We have known Roland, the owner of Ranchland Development, since before 2015. Knowing his work we hired him to remove the silt and enlarge a pond on our ranch. We are still very happy with the work he did. He has even returned to see the pond and assess how well it held up over time due to weather and erosion. He is professional, knowledgeable and easy to work with. He knows what it takes to reclaim and maintain our grasslands and ranches.
